The question has arisen as to when the employment of the sheriff's deputy ends. One of the sheriff's deputies is funded partially by federal funds and the county treasury. The other deputy is funded from the sheriff's fees. Your view is that the deputy's service ends with the term of the incumbent sheriff. We agree.
The sheriff may appoint his own deputies and may revoke the appointment at his pleasure. KRS 70.030.
Since the deputy sheriff has no definite tenure, his service in any event must come to an end with the end of the sheriff's term of office. The facts relating to the source of funding the deputies is immaterial in this context. As you say, KRS 67.710(7) has no application.
The incumbent sheriff's term ends on January 4, 1982, when the new sheriff will presumably qualify and take his office, pursuant to § 99,
