Opinion
Opinion By: David L. Armstrong, Attorney General; Walter C. Herdman, Asst. Deputy Attorney General
This is in response to your letter of April 17 in which you relate the following facts and question:
"At the time I requested an opinion from your office in regard to the effective date of legislation enacted during the 1984 Regular Session of the General Assembly, I assumed that the date of sine die adjournment would be April 14, 1984.
In fact, the General Assembly adjourned sine die on Friday, April 13, 1984. I am, therefore, requesting a new opinion from your office as to the effective date of legislation enacted at the recent session of the General Assembly, assuming that the legislation does not contain a special effective date."
In view of the fact that the General Assembly adjourned sine die on Friday, April 13, 1984, rather than Saturday, April 14, 1984 as anticipated in your original request, the effective date of ordinary legislation will be July 13, 1984 rather than July 14, 1984, the date originally computed by this Office in OAG 84-18.
Therefore, all ordinary legislation enacted at the 1984 legislative session will become effective July 13, 1984, OAG 84-18 is hereby withdrawn.
